In a significant move toward cleaner transportation and environmental sustainability, officials from the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat received electric motorcycles powered by locally developed electric vehicle technology. The initiative was led by Mr. Aslam Azad, CEO of AGECO and Technology Partner of COMSATS, as part of ongoing efforts to promote indigenous EV solutions in Pakistan.

We trust Pakistan's indigenous EV technology and are proud to support its adoption.

Naveed Kamran Baloch, Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan

Federal Ombudsman Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch expressed confidence in the locally engineered electric mobility initiative supported by COMSATS and demonstrated his commitment by becoming one of its early adopters.

The effort also gained support from the Food Security and Agriculture Center of Excellence, a non-profit platform sponsored by Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC). Under the leadership of CEO Mr. Hassan Akram, the organization became one of the first entities from the autonomous corporate and NGO sector to embrace the technology.

Affordable EV conversion is the fastest path toward reducing emissions and fuel dependency in Pakistan.

Aslam Azad, CEO, AGECO & Technology Partner, COMSATS

Mr. Aslam Azad, the innovator behind the EV conversion technology, holds multiple patents and certifications recognized by national regulatory bodies, including PSQCA and NSC. With the support of Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of COMSATS, his team has developed EV conversion kits capable of transforming conventional petrol-powered two- and three-wheelers into electric vehicles.

Pakistan is home to one of the world's largest motorcycle populations, with an estimated 30 million bikes on the road. These vehicles collectively consume large quantities of imported fuel and contribute substantially to carbon emissions. According to available estimates, motorcycles account for approximately 37 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually while consuming billions of dollars worth of imported petroleum products.

Electric mobility can help Pakistan achieve important sustainability and climate goals.

Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director, COMSATS

The transport sector remains one of the major contributors to air pollution in Pakistan, generating over 50 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions each year. This pollution contributes to recurring smog conditions, particularly in Punjab, affecting public health, transportation, and economic productivity.

Recognizing these environmental challenges, COMSATS has supported the development and deployment of practical technology-driven solutions. One of the key principles behind the EV conversion initiative is affordability. Since the majority of motorcycle owners belong to middle- and lower-income households, replacing existing vehicles with new electric models can be financially challenging. Converting existing motorcycles to electric power offers a cost-effective alternative that reduces emissions, lowers fuel expenses, and decreases dependence on imported petroleum.

Innovation and local manufacturing are essential for a sustainable transportation future.

Hassan Akram, CEO, FFC

The wider adoption of electric mobility can also contribute to Pakistan's progress toward several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including health improvement, clean energy, industrial innovation, sustainable urban development, responsible consumption, and climate action.

COMSATS is an intergovernmental organization established in 1994 with the vision of strengthening scientific and technological cooperation among developing nations. Today, it comprises 27 member states spanning Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, supported by a network of science and technology centers of excellence around the world.
