A Landmark Agreement for Pakistan's Technology Future

On February 23, 2026, COMSATS — the intergovernmental organisation spanning 27 member nations — and SANSO Group of Industries, a German multinational with operations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony in Islamabad.

The agreement spans five key areas of technology collaboration: Electric Vehicles and Battery Technology, TeleHealth, Secure Communication, Financial Technology (Fintech), and Cybersecurity. AGECO (Pvt.) Ltd., the company behind the ECONOMIA brand, signed the agreement as a core partner in the EV and battery technology workstream.

The Signing Ceremony

The MoU was signed by Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of COMSATS, and Mr. Haroon S. Khan, representing SANSO Group of Industries. Mr. Aslam Azad, CEO of AGECO (Pvt.) Ltd., signed as an additional signatory reflecting AGECO's central role in the EV collaboration.

This MoU is a milestone in COMSATS' efforts to bridge the technology and knowledge gap between countries of the North and the South.

The ceremony was attended by ambassadors of Morocco, Somalia, Yemen, and Zimbabwe — member nations of COMSATS — underscoring the agreement's significance for the broader Global South technology agenda.

Who Is SANSO?

SANSO Group of Industries is a German-headquartered multinational with offices in Japan, the UAE, Latvia, and Switzerland. The group operates across technology-intensive sectors including advanced manufacturing, health technology, financial infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

SANSO brings with it a network of global expertise and established partnerships in both advanced economies and emerging markets — making it a strategically significant partner for COMSATS' mission of South-South and North-South technology collaboration.

There is a need to strengthen linkages among Government, Academia, and Private Sector in developing countries. This agreement reflects our commitment to doing exactly that.

What This Means for AGECO and ECONOMIA

For AGECO, the agreement opens access to SANSO's global technology network and manufacturing expertise, directly supporting the scaling of ECONOMIA's EV and battery platform beyond Pakistan's borders.

The collaboration provides structured support for battery technology development — a critical component in reducing vehicle cost and extending range — while also creating pathways for international validation of indigenously developed Pakistani EV technology.

Within the framework of COMSATS' 27 member nations, AGECO's ECONOMIA brand gains exposure to a broad set of developing country markets that share Pakistan's mobility challenges and can benefit from affordable, locally maintainable electric vehicle solutions.
