Pakistan’s electric vehicle industry is steadily evolving, and one company making remarkable progress in this space is Economia. During a recent interview with UrduPoint, Mr. Aslam Azad discussed the company’s innovative solar electric cart, its partnership with COMSATS University Islamabad, and the future of electric mobility in Pakistan.
Founded in 2009, Economia has been working consistently toward developing locally manufactured electric vehicles and sustainable transport solutions. One of the company’s major innovations is its solar electric cart, a vehicle designed and manufactured entirely in Pakistan. According to Mr. Aslam Azad, the cart is equipped with solar technology that can provide an additional 30 kilometers of driving range, making it both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The CEO explained how the solar cart works by utilizing solar panels to support the vehicle’s battery system, reducing dependency on conventional charging methods. This innovation not only lowers operational costs but also promotes clean energy usage in daily transportation.
“Economia is the first local EV brand of Pakistan to hold the maximum number of patents.”

In addition to developing new electric vehicles, Economia is actively working on retrofitting traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles into electric bikes. The company plans to expand this initiative further by starting electric car retrofitting projects in the near future. This approach can significantly reduce fuel dependency and make electric mobility more accessible for consumers.
Another notable achievement shared during the interview was Economia’s strong focus on innovation and intellectual property. The company holds patents for multiple vehicle technologies, including the solar electric cart. These patents reflect Economia’s commitment to locally developed engineering solutions and technological advancement within Pakistan’s automotive industry.
As Pakistan moves toward cleaner and smarter transportation systems, companies like Economia are playing an important role in driving innovation, sustainability, and local manufacturing capabilities. With continued research, strategic partnerships, and groundbreaking products like the solar electric cart, the future of electric mobility in Pakistan looks promising.
